The first meeting of the UK & Irish Winter Resilience group since before COVID promises to be a great opportunity for everybody to re-connect and discuss winter operations.
As ever this will be an informal session to discuss topics raised by the group openly and share experiences and knowledge.
This year we will be joined by the Met Office to talk all things winter weather, with a Q&A session after.
The CAA will be giving an update on GRF and will be available to answer and questions that may arise on this subject.

A familiar face in the SWIFT community has been added to the lineup - previous SWIFT Committee Chair, Roy McLeod. Having managed Airside Operations at Calgary International Airport (YYC) for more than 10 years, Roy was responsible for overseeing 2,000 hectares of airport infrastructure. He is now based at Vancouver's YVR as a consultant, enhancing winter operation procedures.
For SWIFT Europe, Roy will deliver a presentation on safe operations and the need to push back on commercial pressure to run as many flights as possible despite risks. |
Richard Oakes, Airport and Winter Operations consultant, and Head of Fire & Emergency Planning at OXF leads the session on the aviation industry's journey to net zero, covering fleet electrification to solar farms. He will be joined by Colin Shanahan, Airport Fleet Management for DUB, and Bob Donnelly Airfield Projects, Works & Engineering Manager at BHX Airport
The Panel contains Airfield operations experts involved in delivering Net Zero projects into the airside environment, and Airport environmental engineers expert in the management of airport contaminants. Discussions will cover Airports “strategic objectives” to achieve reductions in CO2 emissions, through milestones to integrate Solar power and Electrification of airside fleet. To balance these discussions with the “tactical objectives” to prevent airport environmental contamination.

In this session we will be exploring the bond between Aerial Work Aviation and Airport Management Operations. We will find out what Aerial Work Aviation is and what applications support of Airport Operations (Past & Present).
This session will ask How can Airport Managers use Aerial Work Aviation in the Future and how can future technology benefit airport operations management?
Our discussion Panel will include the Airborne Sensor Operator Group (ASOG) Association and Subject Matter Experts (SME) from Aerial Surveying & Mapping, Aerial Emergency Services, General Aerial Security & Counter-Drone and Aerial Wildlife Management.

This is a rapidly developing area of aviation with many interesting and debatable elements, for example, airspace management, passenger safety, vertiport design, charging points for larger 'people carriers' and many more.
John Hamshare, Aviation Management Consultant leads this session on Vertiports. John will be joined by Jeremy Hartley. Jeremy is the Policy Specialist-Vertiports for the UK CAA as part of the UK's Future Flight Programme. His role is to ensure regulations for this new type of aerodrome infrastructure allow for safe and efficient operations are ready for the introduction of eVTOL aircraft. With a MSc in Air Transport Operations, he’s also the UK member for the ICAO Vertical Flight Infrastructure Working Group developing standards on an international level.
